Immerse yourself in history
Voergaard Castle
Voergaard Castle is located in the heart of Vendsyssel, protected by wide moats. This beautiful Renaissance castle not only houses an impressive collection of French art treasures but also boasts an incredible history.
Frightfully Exciting Tour
The castle can be visited on guided tours daily. The tour includes views of the beautiful salons and stories about the powerful pre-Reformation bishop Stygge Krumpen, the notorious noblewoman Ingeborg Skeel, and the extraordinary tale of the latest owner, Count Ejnar Oberbech Clausen, who traveled to France as a young man and later returned to Voergaard with immense riches.
Today, the castle holds Scandinavia’s largest collection of French art objects, featuring paintings by Rubens, Goya, and Raphael, as well as antiques from Louis XVI, Napoleon, and others.
The castle is also famous for its hauntings, and the guided tour includes tales of the ghosts, the dungeon “Rosedonten,” and the mysterious bloodstain.
The tour is usually in Danish. Translated manuscripts are available in German, English and French
