Textile Boom, Child Labor, and Operating Machines

Tekstilmuseet

While most clothing is now produced on the other side of the world, not long ago Central Jutland was a hub of extensive textile production. The exhibition “Made in Midtjylland” showcases how textile production exploded in the 1950s, creating jobs and growth, leading to a boom in Central Jutland before going global.

The little ones can try working in the Child Labor Factory, where they’ll sew clothes that need to be transported to the train and sent out into the world.

If you visit on Wednesdays, you can often experience the sounds and smells of an old-fashioned textile factory when our volunteers start up the old machines or sit behind the looms—and you might even hear a story from someone who was there when it all really took off. If you want to ensure your visit falls on a day when our volunteers are operating the machines, feel free to contact us.

In the museum shop, you can purchase fine textiles, toys, books, and much more for both kids and adults. Many of the items are made on the museum’s own machines and looms. If you’re hungry, you can grab a light bite or enjoy a good cup of coffee in our lovely café.
