The Farm Karensminde
During school holidays, there are always treasure hunts and games for the youngest family members. The museum’s volunteers organize horse-drawn carriage rides, child-friendly workshops, and bring the old blacksmith’s forge and the traditional kitchen stove to life. Each spring, children help plant potatoes, and each autumn, they assist in harvesting the new potatoes, receiving a bag of potatoes as a thank you for their help. The living museum is nestled in beautiful nature between the meadow and heath, showcasing traces of conditions, development, lifestyle, and consequences from the last 400 years of Danish history.
Start your visit in the Transformation Room—the ultimate dress-up space for the whole family. Dress up as little Karen, the farm wife, the farmhand, or the parish bailiff himself, and feel history come alive. Discover how it all began in the exhibition From Farmstead to Museum Farm.
Hear the voices of the past in the main house, where conversations, the scratch of a fountain pen on paper, the ticking of a Bornholm clock, and the clatter of stove rings recreate the atmosphere of Karensminde in the 1940s. Find inspiration for your future through our shared past.
