In the heart of Aarhus lies a diverse museum with a message and plenty of food for thought. Visit KØN and join the conversation about gender equality, the body, and sexuality. Explore the cultural history of gender and gain new perspectives on its role in society.
KØN is one of the few museums in the world dedicated to the cultural history of gender. It is located in the former town hall in central Aarhus. Within this historic setting, the museum’s permanent exhibitions invite you to take part in discussions about gender roles, delve into the history of sex education, and follow the development of the women’s movement—from Mathilde Fibiger to #metoo. Or experience one of the museum’s major special exhibitions.
KØN is a platform for debate and reflection on the significance of gender. Throughout the year, the museum hosts talks, discussion salons, panel debates, and workshops. Keep an eye on the website, where the events calendar is regularly updated. And don’t forget to visit Aarhus’ coziest little oasis, the KØN Café, where you can enjoy a homemade sourdough bun or a great cup of coffee. Entry to the café is free.
