Bakkehuset
Bakkehuset is part of the Frederiksberg Museums. Bakkehuset offers a sensory experience of one of the most central periods in Danish cultural history – the Golden Age.
Visit Bakkehuset
In the early decades of the 1800s, Bakkehuset buzzed with life and conversation, hosted by the couple Kamma and Knud Lyne Rahbek. The couple often opened their home to the era’s writers, opinion leaders, and scientists, creating a unique space for big ideas, dialogue, and creativity.
Cultural History – The Golden Age
A visit to Bakkehuset is a sensory experience of one of the most central periods in Danish cultural history – the Golden Age. The original atmosphere, spirit, and tradition of the place are preserved today through exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and long-table dinners. The museum is surrounded by a beautiful small historical garden.
In the family section, Eventyrakademiet (The Fairy Tale Academy), H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales are interpreted in a scenographic total installation with built-in workshop activities for children.
