The Gateaway to UNESCO World Heritage

Vadehavscentret

The exhibition Migratory Bird Wadden is a tribute to our unique natural landscape, which achieved UNESCO World Heritage status in 2014.

In the exhibition, you will meet the mudflats multitude of life, from the smallest algae to the largest predator, the seal. Guided by the migratory birds through the Wadden Sea landscape, you’ll explore the diverse conditions that make the Wadden Sea a vital stop along the East Atlantic flyway. Every day, there are countless takeoffs and landings, as up to 15 million migratory birds pass through. Many of these birds travel thousands of kilometers just to raise a single chick. The Wadden Sea is essential to their survival on the long journey from wintering grounds in the south to breeding areas, including the Arctic tundra in the north.

The Wadden Sea Centre organizes exciting year-round tours in the marshes and the tidal flats, perfect for both children and adults. Join a Wadden Sea Expedition with children at low tide, where the seabed teems with life, or enjoy a wonderful tour to the seal banks on Mandø. We also offer Black Sun tours, oyster safaris, and much more. You can find all our tours and more information here.

The Wadden Sea Centre has won numerous awards for both its stunning exhibition and the beautiful architecture by architect Dorte Mandrup. In 2020, we were honored with the award for the most sustainable museum in Europe.
