The Yachting Museum

The Yachting Museum is housed in one of the picturesque old warehouses on Hobro Harbor. The museum focuses on recreational sailing in its broadest sense, and the multi-story exhibitions showcase everything from old barges and outboard motors to kayaks and communication equipment. As a visitor, you may come onboard the two-masted vintage yacht Silvana, catch the smell of tar and wood, and get a glimpse of daily life on board.

The two old warehouses that house the museum are worth a visit. Built in the 1930s and formerly used by Hobro Korn, the buildings feature exposed timber structures and beams, visible as soon as you enter, creating a unique atmosphere enhanced by the scent of tar and linseed oil.

Currently, The Yachting Museum exhibits 30 vessels. One warehouse includes a boathouse with a display of rigged boats. The other building features smaller boats, a library, a panel exhibition, sailing equipment, models, and local harbor history. Here, you can also browse the museum’s collection of nautical charts. The museum’s library contains a significant amount of sailing literature, used during the season by local, national, and international sailors docking in Hobro.

Almost all items, including the boats, are gifts and donations from private individuals. As early as 1992, even before the museum was physically established, the vintage yacht Silvana from Svendborg, built in 1895, was donated. It was later restored in the boathouse, where it is now exhibited. Silvana is also the only boat in the museum that visitors can board.
