Cannons, Wool Socks, and Life on the Heath
Herningsholm Museum
Herningsholm Museum is housed in Herning’s oldest building, dating back to 1579. The museum tells the story of life on the heath, and the significant role it played in shaping the textile industry that later came to define the region.
Within the atmospheric rooms of the old manor, you can explore the life of the writer Steen Steensen Blicher and the daily existence on the heath through text, images, and artifacts. You’ll also discover the fascinating history of a manor that transitioned from hosting a small army and cannons to building a successful business centered around sheep and wool socks—marking the beginning of the textile industry in Central Jutland.
After exploring the exhibits, you can take a stroll or enjoy a packed lunch in the manor’s small, charming garden. Don’t forget to stop by the museum shop, which offers books, toys, and other delightful items.
