The Powder Works Museum and Arsenalet
Frederiks Vaerk Museum of Industry
In Frederiksværk, you can explore two fascinating museums with just one ticket. At “Arsenalet”, you’ll dive into the industrial history of Frederiksværk, showcasing a variety of products created over more than 250 years in this industrial town. The museum also serves as a gateway to Nationalpark Kongernes Nordsjælland and features a cozy museum shop offering child-friendly souvenirs, ice cream, and other treats.
The visit can be extended with a trip to the Powder Works Museum. Here, you can witness the old water-powered machines in action.
Frederiksværk holds the distinction of being Denmark’s first industrial town, shaped significantly by its royal connections and the canal. In the mid-18th century, Frederiksværk was established as Denmark’s most important military-industrial complex, producing gunpowder, bullets, and bronze cannons. The foundry later shifted to civilian production, manufacturing items such as pots, mirrors, stoves, and central heating systems. Copper from the rolling mill was used for ship sheathing and coin production. In the 1940s, the Danish Steelworks opened, remaining the most dominant company in the town to this day.
